I am the assassin, with tongue forged from eloquence

What's a boy to do.
Courtesy of the nice ladies on the Friends of the Earth stall and PocketPM. I had a little Tony Blair hanging on to my bag.

But I was bored, so we headed over to the funfair, where there was one of those air rifle stalls. "If I pay for the pellets, can I shoot the Prime Minister?" I asked, holding up Tony.
"Errrr. Yeah. Of course you can."
So Tony went into the little place holder for the paper targets, and I lined up my shots.

One just below the heart (well he is a politician, it's a very small target) and one through the tie. "Shoot him in the nether regions." the stall holder suggested, great minds thinking alike.
Then I started aiming for the grin, but it magically deflected the pellets and the next three shots went through his left eye.

The pocketPM people want you to send in pictures of your Tony, but I think this one would just get them in trouble.
And the Armed Response Range Rover seemed to be following us around after that as well........

Exquisite taste

Amazon only lists four Troma movies on DVD, but one of them is Toxic Avenger, probably their best known. Personally, I've only ever seen one of the companies movies- Basket Case, I think- though I'd like to see more. The Guardian profiles Troma founder Lloyd Kaufman and his Cannes antics today.

(Re)Build

Iraqi blogger Riverbend does some maths on the big numbers being quoted to rebuild Iraq. The gist of it is- American contractors are going to charge 100+ times more than the locals would. rebuilding Iraq isn't just about putting structures back up, either, it's also about kick starting the economy. If the figures in here are correct it would be cheaper, and better in the long run, to pump the money directly into the local economy. this would also mean fewer Americans dying, as they wouldn't have so many contractors (targets) in country, troops wouldn't have to be deployed to defend these contractors and the occupation could just melt away.
Of course, Halliburton et al wouldn't be making any profit then, so that's not going to happen.

They Started It!

The US intelligence agencies are catching on- several months behind the rest of us- to the fact that Iraqi defectors told them what they wanted to hear about WMDs. One theory is that Saddam Hussein had agents deliberately spread misinformation abot the scale of operations, though the reasoning behind that one is as dubious as all their other arguments.

Global Democracy

The World Votes is going to record the electoral preferences of all nations in the upcoming US election. The result of this vote is something of a foregone conclusion, but it'll be interesting to see how the poll is distributed.

Automatic for the people

To describe Shop 24 as a big vending machine doesn't really do it justice. It's a vending machine the size of a small shop. This is the kind of innovation you'd expect from Japan, not Darlington (and the idea originally came from Belgium). I want someone to open one of these near me as soon as possible.
UPDATE: The BBC version of the story is here and the company that make them are here.

Dumb Waiter

Jeremy Beadle would never try a stunt on someone this high profile, but the French would. A French TV show pranked Wubble U's head chef into thinking Jacques Chirac was trying to recruit him. They actually had him believing the French president was sick of French food and really wanted to live on burgers and ribs!
