Buy your own ski resort- only one franc
The Swiss ski resort of Ernen has suffered over the last few years and desparately needed investment to reverse its decline. So they put out a call for bids and sold themselves to Berkshire businessman Bruno Prior for one franc, on the condition that he could bring in £20million in funding.

SMX Ski Trike
The SMX is a trike with skis instead of wheels. It isn't just that simple as it's been developed as a ride for stunt fiends and has won the BrandNew Award at Europe outdoor trade show ISPO in Munich.

Office Jobs Suck
So say Peakleaders, who want to teach you to be a qualified ski instructor and travel the world. I don't have a sense of balance, or I'd think about it.

Other ski slopes in the North West
Sheffield's isn't the only ski slope I could go to from Manchester. There's also the Pendle Ski Club. Not as large, but still somewhere to learn. Or there's Xscape, near Leeds, where they have "real" snow.

Ski Club
The Ski Club of Great Britain was set up in 1903, and has just celebrated 100 years of adrenalin and adventure on snow. When the Club started, over 100 years ago, its purpose was the same as today:

* to share ski information
* to encourage people to ski
* to have a great time skiing together in the mountains

The Club is for skiers and boarders of all ages and abilities and provides its members with many valuable services, including skiing with other members in resorts, finding out essential information on where, when and how to go skiing, as well as discounts on all aspects of travel, accommodation, equipment and ski clothing.

They also have an admirable environmental policy.

Tony Hawk Helmet Cam
Another offering to let you video your own POV footage of stunts, the Tony Hawk cam is endorsed by the man himself. It has a few benefits over the previously mentioned Sports Cameras. Not only is it cheaper, but it's self contained, recording onto an SD memory card. The basic unit only comes with a 32 meg card, but larger cards are fairly cheap, certainly cheaper than the Sports Camera's required recording equipment.

Resolution is 640 by 480. There's no video on the site to give an indication of its quality, but what I saw on the Helmet Headz stand at the Ski and Board show was quite good.

Northern Ski and Snowboard Show
I didn't know what to expect from this show, but it was a little disappointing to pay £7.50 for the privilege of walking round a room full of sales booths. there was still a lot of interesting stuff, and I'm going to be adding interesting finds for the rest of the week. For now, here are a few pictures-
