Vandals

Somebody gave them pavement chalk. I’m trying to make sure they only draw in front of our house, don’t want to upset the neighbours.

Honey, I shrunk the camper van

Or maybe it would be more precise to call it a minivan, like those things "soccer moms" are supposed to drive. You could probably fit this in one of them.

Stability is probably poor, and collision protection nonexistent, but part of me wants this kei camper.

There once was a pub…..

The first thing I noticed was the rather forlorn steps. Then I spotted the cellar door.

A wander around Gorton

Cherub power!

I thought it was time to have a better look around the new neighbourhood. There’s some interesting bits to be found.

Lady Liberty

Yes, that is Lady Liberty in someone’s back garden. There’s another statue in the same garden, which looks like a gorilla with a crash helmet on, but it’s hard to get a picture of it.

Gorton weir

Shortly after taking this photo I saw a Kingfisher flitting around the stream. It moved too fast to get a photo of it, though.

Discovery

Roebuck

I think both these shops are still trading, it was just too early in the day for them to be open.

Memories fade

Gorton wood path

And that’s just a random little wander. There’s a fair amount more to be discovered yet.

Congratulations to the USA on not electing Mitt Romney. No matter how gracious everyone is saying he was in defeat, you know that, had he won, he would have driven the country into the ground with a combination of Tea Party and corporate inspired policies.

I may even buy some candy to celebrate.

"Whatever you do," I said, "don’t buy another rat."

So she bought another rat.

Problem is, it’s just so damn cute. I can’t possibly demand it’s sent back.

We’ll let the girls name her over the weekend.

An architectural wander around the Plymouth Grove hotel

The Plymouth Grove hotel

I’ve been meaning to get photos of the Plymouth Grove for years. I was out that way earlier this week shooting other stuff so I decided to stop by.

It’s a Grade 2 listed building and, according to the guy who appeared to be working on it they’re starting a refurbishment project, so I got in at the right time for decay photos. There are more photos at the Plymouth Grove set on Flickr.

GOLD!!!

Gold postbox on Albert Square. Tomorrow I have stuff to post, perhaps I’ll go the slight extra distance to use this postbox.

Manchester Whit Walk 2012

The very first pictures I uploaded to Flickr, way back in 2005, were of the Manchester Whit Walk. Nearly 8,000 images and over a million views later I finally managed to catch the Walk again. I’ve not uploaded many of the photos I took today to the Whit Walk 2012 set because I wanted to post stuff quickly. More may be added when I have time.

On the way into town I stopped to get a few shots of the Daily Mirror organised cyclosportive. I like this one-

Manchester Cycle

(I did a little bit of Photoshopping to remove the street light which was sticking out of the rider’s helmet at an odd angle and to get a darker and more detailed sky.)

As I walked my bike along the side of the route I was asked a couple of imes why I wasn’t taking part. The honest answer is I’ve been distracted and disorganised and, as with so many things, it sneaked up on me before I really knew about it. Maybe next year……

I also took this picture, a baby architectural wander-
